Sputtering: Bulls falter late as trip nears end
Oh, it looked good there. At least for a while. The Bulls were up nine in the third quarter Wednesday night in San Antonio. Playing good ball. Hitting their shots.

Then it fell apart. The Spurs stampeded past the Bulls with a barrage of three-pointers to take a five-point lead entering the final quarter and were never seriously threatened.

What might have been. A victory here -- perhaps too much to ask for, yes -- would have evened the annual painful circus excursion at 3-3 with one last adventure Sunday in Philadelphia. Instead, it's 2-4 and looking for love in the city of Brotherly Love, and memories of winnable games here, in Los Angeles and in Denver, offering both promise and frustration.
