Rose still out with bad ankle

Rose still out with bad ankle GREEN BAY, Wis. ? Derrick Rose missed his second straight preseason game Saturday with a sore right ankle, and he may not be back anytime soon.

Sitting next to Rose at his locker before the game was a walking boot, which he acquired after the Bulls returned from London this week.

"It?s going to take awhile, but I?m being patient with it and just hoping and praying I can do something to make it better," Rose said before a 98-86 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks. "It?s a tendon that runs behind the bone in my ankle. There?s fluid in my ankle, so I?m just waiting for that to leave."

Rose hasn?t been doing any running or jogging on his injured leg this week and said he has kept the foot elevated at night. The second-year guard turned the ankle in the Oct. 2 game at Indiana but kept playing.

"I just wanted to win the game," he said. "I knew it was something serious when later on that night I really couldn?t walk."

Rose agreed that he?s in for at least another week of recovery. The Bulls play three exhibitions in four nights next week, then will have just two preseason games remaining before opening the regular season Oct. 29 against San Antonio.

While many NBA observers see the preseason as a waste of time, Rose doesn?t agree with that pessimistic viewpoint.

"I don?t look at it like that. I want to play, just to show where I?ve improved my game and get used to shooting," Rose said. "I guess I?m going to take my time."

The game itself was mostly a sluggish mess on the Bulls ? part, and maybe it should have been expected. They did nothing for two days while returning from London, practiced Friday, then traveled to Green Bay.

The Bulls (2-1) missed their first 8 field-goal attempts of the night until rookie forward Taj Gibson finally nailed a 15-foot jumper with 5:56 left in the opening quarter. The Bulls finished with 27 turnovers.

"I thought we were flat. I thought they outworked us," Bulls coach Vinny Del Negro said. "Way too many turnovers to make any type of consistent run. Everyone?s schedule is difficult. I don?t make excuses for that."

Tyrus Thomas (bruised hip) also sat out his second straight game but will likely return to action soon. Gibson started the game at power forward, then Del Negro used Brad Miller with the starters to begin the third quarter.

The best news for the Bulls was more decent play from rookies Gibson (12 points but just 2 rebounds) and James Johnson (14 points, 7 boards in 26 minutes). Kirk Hinrich and Jannero Pargo each added 13 points.
