Jazz to add Dupree to camp roster

Jazz to add Dupree to camp roster A small forward who has apparently been on the radar of the Utah Jazz's front office for years ? and who could possibly be a roster fill-in for Matt Harpring ? will accept an invitation to participate in the team's fall training camp.

And the Ronald Dupree camp believes the 6-foot-7, 209-pound athlete has a chance of earning a roster spot on the NBA team that plays just up the road from where the former Utah Flash standout spent part of last year's D-League season. "We haven't signed anything official yet," agent Mark Bartelstein said, "but that's the plan is for him to come to camp ... and try to make the team." That could happen, Bartelstein said, whether or not Harpring ends up playing in Utah again, too. "We think there's still going to be opportunities," Bartelstein said. "We hope Matt's healthy. He's had a great career and hope he gets back to playing. But that's not going to affect Ron's decision." Dupree has bounced around the NBA and the D-League since a productive career at Louisiana State University, where he ranks among the school's all-time scoring and rebounding leaders. Though undrafted in 2003, Dupree landed with the Chicago Bulls for the 2003-04 season. He has since played for Detroit, Minnesota and Seattle, logging action in 154 NBA games. His most successful stint was his rookie season, when he averaged 6.2 points and 3.6 rebounds while playing in 47 games, including eight starts, for the Bulls. Dupree has torn it up in the D-league most of the past two years, including in Utah last season after a mid-year trade from Tulsa. He averaged 16.2 points, 6.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 0.9 steals in 31 outings with the Flash... Playing that well for the local minor-league affiliate only helped his chances of getting a shot with Utah, according to Bartelstein. "They've followed him quite a bit and stayed in contact with him for long time now. Kevin O'Connor and Walt Perrin have showed a lot of interest," Bartelstein said. Dupree is expected to come to Utah next week in time for camp, which begins next weekend. MARBURY TO FLASH?: Dupree isn't the only player who's received an invitation to join a local pro team. On Thursday, Utah Flash owner Brandt Andersen sent a tweet to Stephon Marbury, who is currently sans a squad. This from Andersen's Twitter account: "@starburymarbury I am the owner of the Utah Flash NBA dleague team. Why not come play for us this season. Fans would love having u." If the longtime NBA veteran accepts Andersen's gracious offer, he wouldn't be the first player from his family to play in Utah. Marbury's older brother, Norm, played for the Salt Lake Community College about 15 years ago. e-mail:
