Community: Five displays of athletic arrogance
Athletes are arrogant. We all know that. And if we made millions of dollars per year to do something we actually like, we'd probably be a little on the arrogant side too.

Unfortunately, that arrogance can turn into a huge foot being stuck into the mouth of the arrogant offender, and last I checked, feet don't taste too good.

FOXSports.com Community partner

Maybe since we viewers couldn't hear you, you thought we wouldn't know what you were saying.

We knew, thanks to Jeff Van "Always Saying Weird Things" Gundy, as he told us you were yelling to someone in the front row, "Not tonight, man! Not tonight!" Oh yeah Kobe, tonight, and in the worse way.

Only reason I didn't rank this horrible display of arrogance higher is because you're Kobe Bryant, the most individually talented player since veinte y tres, or No. 23.

But to lose a game in which you said you wouldn't by 40, and score less points in three quarters than you did in the first, that's just plain horrible. You lost by 40! 40? Yes, 40!!

If you ever do that again, I'm going to place you in the Rasheed Wallace Hall of Fame for botched guarantees, and you don't want to be in the same category as Mr. Technical Foul. Unless, you get more than him.

Never mind.

(Editor's Note: Kobe had more technicals in the 2008 NBA Playoffs than Rasheed Wallace. And everyone else.)

Foot In Mouth Factor - 5 Toes

3. Pat Riley's Bold Assertion — post-2006 NBA Finals

Let's face it. Riles had his days. He has been a successful coach, and he was a pretty successful player. We will never forget him, and I respect what he has done.

But what the hell was he thinking when he addressed the Miami fans after their 2006 NBA championship over the heartless Dallas Mavericks?

I don't know, but he brought new meaning to the word, "arrogant." After telling the fans, "Guess what? [next year] We're gonna win it [championship] again!" His Miami Heat were bounced by the Chicago Bulls in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs.

If that isn't appalling, then missing the playoffs with the worst record in the NBA the following season is.

Not only was he terribly wrong about his little prediction, but the Heat became the laughingstock of the NBA faster than a Floyd Mayweather right hook. Riles even left the bench to "scout talent".

If that's so, then why the hell did the Heat reportedly wait to the last minute to draft Kansas State F Michael Beasley?

I don't know, but I smell a fish in the water! And maybe it's coming from the Heat front office.

Foot In Mouth Factor - 6-1/2 Toes

2. Matt Hasselbeck In Overtime — 2003 NFC Playoffs

Matthew Hasselbeck. Those have to be five seconds you wish you could have back. If you could hop in a DeLorean and repeat that infamous overtime coin toss in the 2003 NFC Divisional playoff, you'd keep your mouth shut.

After an improbable run into the Divisional round of the playoffs against his former team, the Green Bay Packers, Matt Hasselbeck played a great second half to force overtime.

Full of adrenaline and energy, the Seattle Seahawks' captains stepped on the field for the overtime coin toss.

After the Seahawks won possession, QB Matt Hasselbeck said into the FOX sports microphone, "We want the ball, and we're gonna win."

Everyone was caught off guard and couldn't believe his arrogance. Now he'd put a target squarely on his back, bigger than the one on a department store.

After a couple of nice plays on their drive, Hasselbeck took a five-step drop, looked, and threw a pass to his left.

I can still hear the call now.

"INTERCEPTED by Al Harris! He has room! He could score! Nobody will catch him, and the Packers win!"

Wow. Talk about a choke job. Not only did his guarantee fail, but he threw the pick-six that lost the game. Could you feel any dumber?

Foot In Mouth Factor - 9 Toes

1. Tom Brady's Passive Sarcasm — pre-Super Bowl XLII

Mr. All-American Golden Boy Tom Brady. We love you, man. But the Patriots' shrewd approach to the media comments just made us all sick.

As Kobe said, "I don't want to sound Belichicky, but we don't think about it."

Well, I bet you, Tom Brady and The Hoody, thought about the astronomical upset you suffered at the hands of the New York Giants.

And also that sarcastic, arrogant statement he made during media week.

In response to a comment a Giant made about beating the Patriots and holding them to 17 points, Brady responded a little differently than we've grown accustomed to with the Patriots team.

When asked how he felt about it, Brady responded, "If that's how they feel, that's okay. I just don't know how they say we're going to score just 17 points." He went on to say, "The most prolific offense scoring 17 points? He could've given us more than that."

Classy and funny Brady.

Wasn't too funny though after leaving Super Bowl 42 a loser, and actually scoring just 14 points. Not to mention, victim to one of the biggest upsets in sports history.

Foot In Mouth Factor - 10 Toes Plus A Rabbit's Foot

Next time, when mama says, "Keep your feet out of your mouth," you five, arrogant violators better listen.

Unless you have a foot fetish. Ugh.
