ROTATION: Starters -- Point guard Derrick Rose, Shooting guard John Salmons, Small forward Luol Deng, Power forward Tyrus Thomas, Center Joakim Noah. Bench -- Guard Kirk Hinrich, Guard Jannero Pargo, Guard Lindsey Hunter, Forward Taj Gibson, Forward James Johnson, Center Brad Miller. PLAYER NOTES: --F Taj Gibson wasn't quite as accurate as he was in preseason, but he had a decent NBA debut in Thursday's win over the Spurs, finishing with six points and six rebounds in 16 minutes. Gibson was a steady presence in preseason, which is why he immediately joined the rotation while rookie forward James Johnson did not play in the opener.
--F Tyrus Thomas was a key contributor when the Bulls pulled away from San Antonio. Thomas collected 10 points and three blocks in the decisive third quarter, hitting several outside jumpers in the process.
--G Derrick Byars was on the Bulls' official season-opening roster, but was released a day before the game against San Antonio. The Bulls are being careful to keep costs down, because their payroll is close to luxury tax levels. They decided to keep Byars a few extra days so he could collect some of his rookie salary before departing.
MEDICAL WATCH:
--C Aaron Gray (stress fracture in his left fibula) was injured early in training camp and may be ready to resume practice in mid-November. The third-year pro was re-signed to provide depth at the center position, but wasn't expected to play much.
--C Jerome James (torn right Achilles' tendon) hasn't played since early last season when he was with the Knicks. No one is counting on any contributions from him, but he's vowed to get healthy and play sometime this season. It will probably be at least late November before he's ready to practice.
