Chicago Bulls Notes, Quotes 2009-12-11

Chicago Bulls Notes, Quotes 2009-12-11--Against New Jersey on Tuesday, G Derrick Rose took on a role many Bulls' fans have been waiting for. He basically put the team on his back when they trailed by 10 heading into the final 12 minutes. During the fourth quarter, Rose produced 11 points, three assists, two rebounds and hit 5-of-7 shots from the field. He also sent the Bulls ahead with 19.5 seconds left when he tossed a soft floater over veteran big man Tony Battie. But when the Bulls fell behind and took possession five seconds later, they couldn't get the ball to Rose and ended up missing a three-point attempt.

"They were denying me pretty good and John (Salmons) thought he had the shot," Rose said. "We all trust him; he made a big shot before and it just didn't end up right. I was trying (to come back for the ball). I came back up to the top. By that time, he was already shooting."

--F James Johnson has been given more of a chance to earn playing time with both Kirk Hinrich and Tyrus Thomas out with injuries, but Johnson hasn't been able to contribute much in games. In Tuesday's loss to New Jersey, he had no points, three turnovers and went 0-for-5 from the field in 12 minutes. The No. 16 draft pick from Wake Forest has plenty of offensive skills, which he's shown in practice, and the Bulls are in dire need of another offensive weapon.

"I'm ready for the minutes I'm playing condition-wise," Johnson said. "But getting comfortable with the team and playing with them out there in a real game has been kind of difficult. Right now I'm working on my defense, just letting my defense make my offense. When it comes time for a different role, I'm going to step up."

QUOTE TO NOTE: "This game is all mental. Either you want it or you don't. The score (Wednesday night) speaks for itself. Hustle, if you want it. Rebound. We're just not playing hard." -- G Derrick Rose, after the Bulls' 35-point loss in Atlanta on Wednesday.
