Chicago Bulls Notes, Quotes 2009-11-15

Chicago Bulls Notes, Quotes 2009-11-15--Cleveland's LeBron James suggested recently that he'd give up wearing No. 23 next season and believes it should be retired league-wide in honor of Bulls great Michael Jordan. Current Bulls guard Derrick Rose wore No .23 in college at Memphis, but he never wanted to wear Jordan's number in the NBA. Obviously, he can't wear No. 23 with the Bulls, but he would have gone with No. 1 even if another team had won the 2008 draft lottery.

"I'm superstitious, so I really wanted No. 1 pretty bad," he said. "That was my original number, so why not wear it my whole career? At Memphis, (No. 23) was to remind people not to forget about Chicago."

--Tyrus Thomas has his left arm in a cast, but he will be able to stay in shape while the injury heals. He's planning to join the Bulls on the upcoming West Coast trip, and the team is optimistic he'll return to the court in early December. Thomas broke his left arm while doing a pull up at the Berto Center on Nov. 6. He had surgery the following day to repair the break in the radius, about halfway between the wrist and elbow.

"I was like, 'Dang, I just broke my arm,'" Thomas said. "Nobody believed me because I was calm and I wasn't in pain. Of course, it's always hard to miss time, but you have to take the good with the bad. I'm basically free to run after a week or so. I have a plate in (the arm). The break is mended together."

QUOTE TO NOTE: "It's the starters' responsibility. Like I told them, if they can't handle that, then I have to make changes quicker." -- Coach Vinny Del Negro, after the Bulls fell behind 20-6 at the start of Saturday's win over Philadelphia.
