Chicago Bulls Getting Inside 2009-12-08

Chicago Bulls Getting Inside 2009-12-08The Bulls weren't quite sure what to think after getting pounded at home by a Toronto team that was one of the league's worst defensive outfits so far this season. The Raptors gave up 146 points in Atlanta earlier this week, but the Bulls scored just 78.

"It's really frustrating when you know you worked so hard and you get up and come to the game and it's like you don't show up at work," forward Luol Deng said. "Until we commit defensively, I don't think our offense will come around."

Coach Vinny Del Negro expressed some frustration about the team's spate of injuries. Guard Kirk Hinrich missed his fifth game Saturday with a sprained left thumb, and Tyrus Thomas remains out with a broken left arm. Del Negro also mentioned that guards Jannero Pargo and Lindsey Hunter are slowed by injuries, while center Aaron Gray just came back from a stress fracture in his left fibula.

"There's not a lot there to get going," Del Negro said. "That's why the starters have such a responsibility to keep us in it, (then) get something off the bench somewhere that can give us some type of rest without us dropping a level. With our guys out right now, it's difficult."

The Bulls, who are moving into a home-heavy stretch of the schedule, play host to New Jersey on Tuesday. The pressure is off the Bulls in one aspect because the Nets finally ended their NBA-worst streak of futility to open a season with 18 straight losses. The Nets beat Charlotte at home on Friday.

RAPTORS 110, BULLS 78: This one was brutally ugly from the opening tip for the Bulls, who were pounded by Toronto on Saturday at the United Center. The Raptors pulled away early and built a 28-point lead three minutes into the second quarter. The Bulls cut it to 20 by halftime, then watched Toronto open the third quarter with a 7-0 run. Five Raptors scored in double figures, led by forward Chris Bosh (25 points), and six players knocked down 3-point baskets. Toronto won for the fifth time in its last six visits to Chicago. The Bulls were led by guards John Salmons and Jannero Pargo, who each had 13 points.
