Blair, Mullens, Johnson on list
After conducting workouts which included approximately 50 prospects, the Bulls were hoping to bring back three forwards for another Berto Center session before the Thursday draft.

The trio warranting a second look by general manager Gar Forman and his staff are Ohio State center B.J. Mullens, Pittsburgh forward DeJaun Blair, and Wake Forest forward James Johnson.

The Bulls , who have two first-round picks (Nos. 16 and 26) might also try to schedule a visit by Louisville's Earl Clark, who cancelled a Sunday workout due to a hamstring injury.

Forman said the Bulls will spend the next two days dissecting video and scouting reports on a group of ''five or six players'' they believe will be available at No. 16.

That's assuming the Bulls keep their draft picks.

''We've also had talks with teams about moving up, moving back,'' Forman said Monday. ''And we've had talks with teams where either with one or both of our picks, we move out [of the draft].''

Given the group of forwards Forman wants to see again, it would appear the Bulls are thinking big when it comes to selecting at No. 16.

Then again, a trade up could land them a player such as Duke shooting guard Gerald Henderson or Syracuse point guard Johnny Flynn.

''We may take a point guard if we feel that's the best player available,'' Forman said. ''We're looking at a lot of film. We'll look at even some guys if we're looking to move up or back and really get to know those [12-15] guys were still kicking around, for sure.

''It's going to be a very active draft because there are the top five or six guys and after that, the same guy who goes nine or 10 could go 20 or 21. We'd like a low-post scorer. But when you get that deep, I'm not sure you can pinpoint a specific need and meet it. If we can with somebody we like, then we would address it. But we do feel out of our [target] group there will be somebody at 16 that we like.''

Some mock drafts project Blair as the Bulls' first pick and Forman sounded as if he were not scared off by the 6-6? Blair measured with shoes at the predraft combine. Blair averaged 15.7 points and 12.3 rebounds last season.

''He's an intriguing guy,'' Forman said. ''The one thing, if you study drafts over the last 15 to 20 years, rebounders rebound. That's a stat that does translate. So I think he's going to be a good player in the NBA.''

While both Henderson and the 6-8 Johnson are expected to be among the lottery picks, Mullens should be available at No. 16. And his 7-0, 260-pound frame and raw potential could prove tempting to the Bulls .

''That's one of the things we debate all the time: Do you take a more-ready player, or do you take the guy you think is extremely talented that has potential and a higher ceiling, but you're going to have to wait a little bit?'' Forman said. ''That's one of the things we're kicking around on a daily basis.''

One of the options the Bulls are considering with the No. 26 pick is to select an international player, including one who would be under contract with his club for another year or two.

The Bulls did that in the second round last year with Turkish center Omer Asik.

That would allow the Bulls to save some salary-cap room this summer, which could go to a contract for soon-to-be Bulls free agent Ben Gordon. But Forman said he and his staff are approaching this draft without regard to whether Gordon is re-signed.

''Most of the work has been done over the past year as far as evaluating guys,'' Forman said. ''Then, as far as possibilities that may come up on draft night, we have all those things lined up. So it's usually very calm and organized. We've analyzed if this happens, do we do this? Or do we do that? It's usually lined up where, if something presents itself, we've already had a lot of discussion about it.''
